Key specifications

LiteSpan is Technopol's factory-laminated composite sandwich panel — two coated-steel (Chromadek) skins bonded with PU adhesive to an insulating core — supplied in two core families (FRCel fire-retarded EPS and non-combustible Stone Wool) as double tongue-and-groove interlocking wall and ceiling boards.

PropertyValueStandard
Build-upComposite sandwich: two coated-steel (Chromadek) skins + PU adhesive over insulating core; double tongue & groove interlocking. Two core families: FRCel fire-retarded EPS and resin-bonded Stone Wool
Core thermal conductivity (λ)FRCel EPS core 0.0352 (λ_declared); Stone Wool core ≤0.035 W/m·KSANS 54509 / TS EN 12667
Core densityFRCel EPS core ~21 (measured apparent, tested panel); Stone Wool core 120 kg/m³SANS 54509 / TS EN 1602
Core compressive strength (10% deformation)FRCel EPS core 110 (=0.110 MPa); Stone Wool core ≥45 kPaSANS 54509 / TS EN 826
Reaction-to-fire classEPS panel B/B1/2/H; Stone Wool core A1 (non-combustible)SANS 10177-11 / TS EN 13501-1
Fire-resistance rating (Stone Wool assemblies)100 mm wall: FR60 (fixed joint) / FR30 (unfixed joint); double-studded firewall (±195 mm): FR120 — all non-load-bearing — 5-yr test validity lapsed; reconfirm minutesSANS 10177-2
Panel dimensionsEPS board: thickness 50–120, cover width 480 / 1140, length ≤6000; Stone Wool wall: cover width 1145, core 50 / 75 / 100; steel skins ≥0.5 mm
Applicable standardsSANS 10177-11 & -10 (reaction-to-fire), SANS 10177-2 (fire resistance), SANS 54509 (sandwich-panel ITT); TS EN 826/1602/1607/12667/13501-1 (Stone Wool)

EPS core density (~21 kg/m³) is the measured apparent core density of the tested 125 mm 990 IBR panel (SANS 54509 ITT, report OTH-T-2309-04); a declared EPS grade/density range for the ceiling/wall boards was not found in a primary Technopol datasheet — grade-dependent. EPS reaction-to-fire class B/B1/2/H is a SANS 10177-11 flame-propagation result (FIRELAB FTC 19/117) covering thicknesses ≤120 mm provided the panel end is encapsulated in mineral wool; it denotes reaction-to-fire only, NOT a fire-resistance rating. The EPS core is combustible: panel ends must be folded up ~10 mm at perpendicular joints, and it cannot be used with recessed/downlighter fittings. Fire-resistance ratings apply only to the tested Stone Wool assemblies: 100 mm non-load-bearing wall FR60 (fixed-joint) / FR30 (unfixed-joint) per FTC 20/011, and the ±195 mm double-studded firewall FR120 per FTC 20/119 (both SANS 10177-2, non-load-bearing). They do NOT extend to the EPS panels or to other build-ups/thicknesses. FIRELAB test reports are valid 5 years or until a change to product composition, manufacturing process or approved supplier (FTC 18/284, 19/117, 20/011, 20/119). Fire-rated Stone Wool fixings must be steel (not aluminium), steel angles/channels ≥1.6 mm, rivets stainless steel. Fire-test validity: the cited FIRELAB reports (FTC 18/284, 19/117, 20/011, 20/119) have passed their 5-year validity as of 2026; revalidation is in progress — confirm the current certificate before relying on these ratings.

The limits

Where not to use this

A material specified for the wrong job fails you, then us. We would rather lose the order.

As a load-bearing wall carrying roof, floor or crane loads — i.e. using the panel as the structure rather than as cladding or partitioning.
The panel is a self-supporting envelope element, not a structural member: there is no Agrément certificate for LiteSpan (Agrément SA 2020/609 covers the LiteCore Building System ONLY, and then only as a NON-load-bearing wall), and the core's compressive stress at 10% is 110 kPa (VERIFIED — OTH-T-2309-04), which is a core-quality figure, not a design bearing capacity.
→ An engineer-designed light-steel or structural-steel frame (or masonry) carrying the loads, with LiteSpan as infill/cladding spanning between the frame members per the LiteSpan load/span tables (../../kits/litespan-roof-panels/span-tables.html).
A party wall, tenancy-separating wall or fire wall where the authority requires a tested FR60 or FR120 fire-resistance rating today.
The EPS-core panel carries reaction-to-fire class B-s1,d0 (VERIFIED — IT 24-06-00029) but no fire-resistance rating at all; the Stone Wool FR60 wall (FTC 20-011) and FR120 double-studded firewall (FTC 20-119) results are on file but their validity has LAPSED — revalidation is required, so they cannot be presented as a current rating.
→ Masonry or concrete for the rated separating wall, or a Stone Wool-cored build-up backed by a fresh, in-validity SANS 10177-2 test. Do not accept a lapsed certificate — ask us for the current validity date.
Walls in fuel depots, spray booths, vehicle workshops or chemical-handling areas — anywhere petrol, diesel, thinners or aromatic solvents can reach a cut edge or a damaged skin; likewise panels stockpiled uncovered in the sun for weeks before installation.
EPS is dissolved on contact by aromatic solvents and petroleum products and degrades under prolonged UV exposure, so a spill or a long stint in the sun attacks the core through any breach in the steel skin.
→ Stone Wool core (chemically inert, non-combustible) for solvent/fuel environments; keep panels wrapped and shaded on site, and seal every cut edge before hand-over.
